INTRODUCTION

Mendel University in Brno (MENDELU) is a public institution with a long tradition of excellence in teaching and research that has driven new ways of thinking since 1919 and proudly bears the name of J. G. Mendel, the founder of modern genetics. There are over 8,300 students at the university, including 5,500 undergraduates and 2,800 postgraduates. Nearly 1,600 international students make up almost 20 % of the total student body. Mendel University offers more than 100 different graduate degree programs in Czech and in English languages. The University comprises one University Institute and five faculties: AgriSciences, Business and Economics, Forestry and Wood Technology, Regional Development and International Studies and Horticulture.
Internationalization is a long-term priority of MENDELU, which is why we support our academic staff and students on exchanges and develop relationships with universities all over the world. In 2018, almost 700 students took the opportunity to work on projects or study in Europe, the USA, Thailand, the Philippines, and other countries around the world.
Mendel University in Brno is a member of several international networks, for instance, EUA, ICA, IRO ICA or EAEC, which provide a supportive environment to share experiences and cooperate.
We are committed to developing and supporting our researchers, and our endeavors were recognized in 2018 by the European Commission’s HR Excellence in Research Award. We work together with other researchers within the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) network on various projects including agricultural research projects

SECOND YEAR

Mendel University – Czech Republic offers the third optional specialization focusing on wood mobilization through the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology that is one of the major Czech universities concentrating on research and academic activities in the areas relevant for the specialization such as timber structures and wood building construction, wood technology and timber management and furniture design. Mendel University specialization is focused on generating opportunities to conduct research on processing and use of wood and other renewable natural resources when production stability in the balanced landscape is maintained and to use of wood as a unique renewable raw material and use of wood and wood-based materials when creating a healthy and energy-efficient residential environment. Mendel University’s specialization is focused on capacitating students with adequate professional, cultural, ethical and social abilities so that they will be able to solve conceptual issues creatively and adapt themselves to requirements of practice in the bioeconomy sector and be able to transfer their knowledge of skills to the labor market.
